Rumours and Random Notes

First: I was right about Forsberg returning. I mised on Partick Roy... And I was right about the Red Wings going after Hatcher. Well, hell, Patrick's got hip problems. Still he retires as the best the game has ever seen so far, though I think Martin Brodeur will have a rewrite of a lot of Patrick's records before it's all over. And it will be a scream when Modano comes across the blue line with his head down and meets the People's Flying Elbow of Derian Hatcher. Theu're going to need him if Fedorov and his 80-90 points a year take a walk. Sergei to Anahiem?

Red Wings to Cujo: Thanks but No Thanks... Hasek to return, Cujo gets his money regardless... does he have the balls to sit out a year and force Mike Illitch to eat eight million dollars one forkful at a time?

Lemieux to return. I hate to say it but this is a bad fucking move for a team that traded or did not qualify [i.e. make an offer] to anything but the kitchen sink this summer. This team is going to suck and lose money like a seive and Mario can't help a team that will be without him in a year anyway. The ONLY way this helps Mario is a tax write off. STAY HOME THIS WINTER MARIO!!!!

Wilco and Son Volt fans: Need to check out the soundtrack to The Slaughter Rule. Technically it's Jay Farrar plus tracks by Ryan Adams, Vic Chesnutt, Wylie and the Wild West, Blood Oranges, the Flatlanders and others. VERY VERY cool.

Nate also turned me on to a band in Dallas called Nope. They play REAL ROCK AND ROLL ala Replacements, Smithereeens, Cheap Trick... check out www.nope.us They're having trouble getting gigs and getting the record released, but I told Nate to pass the word that there are STILL some people who like rock and roll like this.

Where in the world is J Michael Leone? Phone home, or drop a line Mike!

Also, anyone on the rock and roll discussion group keep a kind thought for Major Scott Downey, returning to Kuwait on a tenth anniversary tour. He says they're supposed to be "in the rear with the gear" but an extra good thought to bring him home for his CRASY wife and three kids to enjoy well into the 2010s wouldn't hurt. I am sure the Downey house was devistated by St Patrick retiring also. [In every picture sent, one duaghter wears and Avs jersey, and his wife became a hockey fan in El Paso and still watches.]

I enjoyed the Fleetwood Mac show in Dallas, even though it's not really Fleetwood Mac since Peter Green left the band [nudge]. Wichita Deb states Stevie in great voice and knocked out by Lindsey's playing. I say need to turn up McVie in the mix [or add some punch to the bass] and DROP the drum solo. American Airlines Center good for shows, though maybe a little dead acoustically [Reunion has GREAT acoustics] But enjoyable none the less. Probably last BIG show I will see for a while since Neil Young touring OUTSIDE this summer. Might want to see Steve Miller if the price and bill is right. Admit it: Fly Like an Eagle and Book of Dreams are great records!

Band that need their catalogs remastered IMMEDIATELY: Little Feat, Fleetwood Mac [ALL of it, not just the Buckingham Nicks years AND reissue a COMPLETE Tusk], J Geils Band, Steve Miller, the Band, Bob Dylan [could even be reissued in spurts ala the original Beatle relaease, three or fou every three months or so... can you imagine Highway 61 Revisited and Blonde on Blonde on top of the charts?], the Beatles [before George Martin dies, let him remaster one more time] ...

Suggestion, counter rants, as always: chaz66@earthlink.net SALEH!
